"There be CANNONS HERE" I said to myself as we drove on our 3rd leg of our BELLE ISLE expedition. We slowed on our 'ADVENTURE CRAWL' of the famous Belle Isle Park, a shining beacon in an otherwise shrouded City.......Detroit. My fellow Investigator and companion for the day have been driving slowly and scanning for interesting places and activities to record for this series of BELLE ISLE ARTICLES. Kim, a Former New York Police Officer is a great driver and has an eagle-eye in noticing stuff. We noticed a modest blue tiled building......You can tell the DOSSIN GREAT LAKES MUSEUM is a sea-related place because of the CANNONS IN FRONT! Wow!

This isn't just a park with some swings and a couple of grills. It is almost a mile and half long and an island! 

In this 1st part of THE GADFLY'S BELLE ISLE ARTICLES, we look at one small part- THE MISS PEPSI BOAT on display in front of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum

'MISS PEPSI'...Won several Races in the 1950's. A piece of Boating History!

The Hydroplanes History Home Page (about famed driver Chuck Thompson) lists 3 incarnations of Miss Pepsi from 1949-1952.

"They were the first to run a lap at 107 mph in competition (1950) and the first to average 101 mph in a Gold Cup heat (1952). Fred Farley's great article on "A Tribute to Miss Pepsi"  notes the greatness of Miss Pepsi on the Boating Circuit! He said,  "no one could take the "mahogany cigar" for granted on the race course.

This weekend is the APBA GOLD CUP, a long-time motor cup sport in the United States! Tickets are available from $15-$60 or you can watch A LIVE STREAM! Isn't technology great?

Try to get down there and have fun! They have bands and other activities too!
