DETROIT'S STRESS-FREE ZONE: NEUROFITNESS LETS YOU 'FLOAT' YOUR TROUBLES AWAY

The world is a stressful place sometimes. But there is a place in Southfield, Michigan that may be able to help you. The place is Neurofitness Center, based in Southfield, Michigan. Specialist in 'Brain Training' using special feedback equipment and 'Flotation Therapy', David & Art McCullar have been helping people since 2007.

I met David McCullar and his Father Art McMullar a few years back when they moved their business into the upscale Claymoor Building in Southfield. Always nice and caring people, they spoke of their work helping people with migraine headaches. 

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. David was moving what I thought was a Sauna into his business. He said it was for 'Float Therapy'

The tank is used for stress-relief as one floats on top of a careful combination of salts tailored for absorption and floating. This 'Therapy' had been around since the 1950's with a resurgence in the 1980's according to Yvonne Zacharias of the Vancouver Sun who wrote a great article on the industry. David mentions taking gravity off your spine and the mixture of salts reduces stress and helps with bodily regulation- The magnesium in the salts helps.

So, I 'Floated'. I had vague remembrances of the Movie, "Altered States" but this was quickly forgotten as I showered to go into the tank. It is cleaned through 3 cycles of water filtering between each client. You are always in communication through a built-in speaker with the Staff. It is your choice if you want the lights on in the tank or you wish to be in darkness.

You can choose your session length. I went for 1 hour. David said some people don't even go for that long. It is totally up to you. I went with the lights out. I have to say it is very relaxing. Make sure you have the issued earplug and you use them as your head floats right at the ear-canal level. And yes YOU FLOAT! People goto the Dead Sea in the Middle East to float there. Experience it locally! lol. The salts in the water keep your body on top of the water.

The staff will let you know when your session is up. The 'Float Room' has an attached bathroom with a shower. They provide soap and towels if you don't bring your own.

You can purchase a per 'float' session or there are package deals. Let David help you. His easy-going personality and strong knowledge of the Stress-Relief industry only reinforces the usefulness of 'Flotation Therapy'. Neurofitness Center is the only Relaxation Clinic to have both Biofeedback & Floation Therapy under the same roof.

Ferndale shines with its Pride Festival this year

The Gadfly Investigations Newspaper went to this year's Ferndale Pride. I swear every year it gets better. The format with an MC at the main stage really helped with a super fun atmosphere. I spent Saturday walking around West Nine Mile in Ferndale that is traditionally closed off to the Festival.
