50 SHADES OF GREY- OUR FUN MOVIE NIGHT WITH BUBBLE TEA GIRL!

IT'S FINALLY OUT! ADORING FANS ARE VERY HAPPY!

50 SHADES OF GREY, the saucy and well-received fetish series in the flesh, so to speak. THE GADFLY had a MOVIE NIGHT and TRIVIA CONTEST at the STAR JOHN R in Madison Heights, Michigan

THE VENUE (SAM)

I haven't been to STAR JOHN R in years...and they have changed:

  1. They were bought by AMC about 6 years ago according to an Employee
  2. They have that awesome comfortable seating. I guess they have to compete with the other chains to get customers!
  3. THEY HAVE A BAR! wow. I never expected that- alot of couples and friends seemed to be enjoying this service.
Alexa, aka Bubble Tea Girl, is a big Fan of  50 SHADES OF GREY!

THE EVENT! (JAKE)

Although the movie was Fifty Shades of Grey, we wanted the theater to be anything but! The AMC Star on John R. Road in Madison Heights was a perfect location for our adventure into this acclaimed, yet controversial, tale of sexual fantasies and fetishes. Much to our surprise the elderly couple with nipple clamps and bondage chains in their pockets was not there to see this movie! We did, however, get to talk to a couple movie goers who had read the books and knew their trivia! Drinks were shared, roses passed around, and a nice photo shoot in front of the posters made for a fun pre-movie ceremony in the main lobby!

YES WE ARE CURIOUS...50 SHADES OF GREY WAS A GREAT MOVIE!

Fifty Shades of Drinks was the attention grabber at the MacGuffins bar located inside of the lobby. We sipped suggestive titled drinks while we scanned the room for our first trivia contestant. Not having to go far, we found our first contestant, Emily, sitting at the bar with her friends. Having read all three books, Emily was just the self-proclaimed expert we were looking for. She agreed to let us film her, and Alexa, our own Fifty Shades of Grey expert, was on point with the question. Emily won a gift card with her correct response, and we chatted before moving on to the next group of contestants. Our second round of trivia began with two friends enjoying their time before the movie. Although not as much of an expert as Emily, our second contestants , Sarah & Liz, got the right answer regardless, and earned themselves a gift card as well!

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie poster was hidden in a corner next to the bar but made a nice stage for our little photo shoot. How could we resist posing in front of the black and white promotional poster! David did a great job mimicking the stern pose of a confident Christian Grey, and Alexa's shirt was perfect for her photo role as Anastasia Steele. But what's a romantic movie premiere without any roses? Just a movie premiere, so to spice things up we brought along some roses to make the night complete! David had a wide smile on his face as we captured him presenting roses to Alexa who was patiently waiting for his arrival! All in all, we had a fun pre-movie get together, and with popcorn in hand, we were ready to see what all the fuss around Fifty Shades of Grey was all about.

THE TRIVIA CONTEST! (SAM)

We only were able to talk to a few people before we had to go in to see the movie. It was so much fun!

THE PHOTOS :)

SO OUR HEROINE, Alexa was waiting for her 'Date', David K. and of course he was late for this Valentines Day Date! But He made up for it by bringing flowers!

"Where is David?"

"He is so dead when I talk to him..."

"OMG! He brought flowers! He's so sweet!"

"Hey Babe...You made my  Valentines Day!"

Alexa poses almost the same as the 50 SHADES OF GREY POSTER!

BUBBLE TEA GIRL'S REVIEW (NOTHING GIVEN AWAY) (SAM)

Bubble thought it was pretty close to the book which I found unusual as the movies usually lack in some way. She liked it! But I can't say anymore as it would give away stuff...I'll try to get Alexa to give a review in the next week or so after everyone has seen it!

DERBY GIRLS & ELVIS NIGHT- DETROIT HAS THE SPIRIT OF ROCK 'N' ROLL

The winds of Detroit roll cold these days but the action is HOT at the Masonic Temple with our very own DETROIT DERBY GIRLS! The 'Cinderella Story' is apt here as the Devil's Night Dames solidly beat the D-Funk Allstars by 40 points (166-126).

These teams are both amazing with the DAMES just rock solid. I talked to some of the girls and found out there are a few new members including a high ranking official with the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the governing body for professional amateur female Derby Teams, is playing on the DAMES! Her and the 'NEW MINDSET' has really paid off. The DAMES have a "grounds-up mentality"- NEW, REBUILT and it's paying off.

Traditionally Woman's Roller Derby has a 'Theme' of a fun, culturally-relevant subject...and this night was ELVIS!!!  I really didn't see any people dressed up, which is a shame. Usually there are a few. Nevertheless, the Elvis hired for the Half-time show and his band were amazing! Really good singer and pretty close to the looks of the "King" himself.

Our Elvis was quite personable and even serenaded a few Derby Girls in the Officials area! Everyone loves Elvis and he was well received.

And oh course, the SUPERFAN of the Detroit Derby Girl (and his favorite team is the D-FUNK ALLSTARS)...THE GREEN GUY! He's a great guy and is always getting the crowd pumped when he is able. People always want to take pictures with him too.

So we are looking forward to the next bout. Stay frosty for more great pictures and videos!

Great Action all night long! Both teams are tough! (1-31-15- DDG)
