DAVID'S COUCH

A sign I saw a few weeks ago while on a PI Case

Change takes place in everyone's life daily in many different areas such as work or at home.  Another employee at work that you may have befriended  is no longer there and no one is given any reason why.  How do we adjust when a loved one passes away and you don't  have a chance to say "I love you" or given a chance to say goodbye. I think one of the hardest  issues is that you may have unfinished business with the person that is no longer in your life.  Many people exhibit a high level of anxiety because of this. One question may come up in your mind is how I am I going to move on with my life.  Having a support system and understanding that you had no control over someone leaving your life will help you deal with the loss or change. It is hard for an individual to understand that they can't control what others do and they have to be responsible for themselves.

In my therapy practice, I help clients understand that they can't control change and the more they try to the more stressed out they may become.  Sometimes a new situation maybe better than the old situation depending upon if it was negative or positive so change is not necessary negative. If you stop to think adapting to change or even stepping out of our comfort zone to change is often difficult. Also, admitting to yourself that things are not going the way you want them to can be very stressful and effect your daily functioning level and self-esteem level.
