As the Gadfly Investigation Newspaper told you months ago, the Old Ramada Inn located at Southfield Road and 9 Mile is as of today 90% gone. This video is the 1st part of 2 parts were the large sides of the building are gravity-dropped due to taking the support beams out.
The Old Ramada site, which had several names over it's life beginning in 1973 (When it was built), is at least partially owned now by Oakland Community College. They have the Deed in its name per a Oakland County Clerk I spoke to on the telephone. The whole site is 5.5 Acres. The Building was 17 stories with a full basement. The construction was known as "Slab-On-Grade". The Hotel was 350,00 square Feet with an attached Convention Center.
The Theory the GADFLY holds is an expansion of Oakland Community College (OCC), Southfield campus which purchased the at least part of the land formerly attached to the Hotel. Nothing wrong with that. The City of Southfield bought the property in 2012 from Oakland county, Michigan for non-payment of property taxes for $397,153.05 from the Former Owners of the Ramada with the stipulation to Demo the Hotel.
Oakland Community College owns 4.85 Acres from the Deed. In February of 2013 the Southfield Downtown Development authority/Cornerstone Development Authority sold/Deeded the Property said Acreage to OCC in February of 2013. again, no issues so far found. We had a tip from a source that has a legitimate view on this sale and the circumstance around it. We are still gathering more information from the Privileged Source and from other entities and people. No issues found so far.
