Event - Business Works in Oakland County

"Wouldn't it be great if we all grew up to be what we wanted to be?  The world would be full of nurses, firemen and ballerinas."  Lily Tomlin
The Gadfly Investigations Newspaper attended this terrific event today - "Business Works in Oakland County".  A big thank you to all who worked on this event, I can see positive things coming out of programs like this.  I particularly want to thank Michigan Works for the great 'SWAG' - I am a big fan of Michigan Works and have attended many of their classes (mostly at the Ferndale Career Center).  If you are unemployed or a small business you must look into the programs they have to offer - they are a great resource for us here in Michigan.  A big thank you to Troy Marriott for a terrific breakfast buffet and to their wonderful 'wait' staff.

Some informational takeaways:
  • Mechanical Engineers - most difficult position to fill (anyone searching for a college major and want to be assured of a job?????)
  • Mechanical Engineers median hourly earnings = $43.11
  • Largest employer in Oakland County.........Beaumont Hospitals followed by Chrysler Group LLC
  • Hard to fill (skilled) jobs that do NOT require a college degree - Tool & Die Makers, Machinists, and Welders  (trade school anyone?????)
  • Median hourly earnings for above jobs , respectively = $26.15, $22.84 and $18.12 (trade school anyone????)
  • Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing,Controls and Robotics Engineers are also in high demand (some good advice - learn to love math if you want to succeed)
