Eastside Derby Girls: Southeast Michigan's 'Sorority-on-Wheels'

I met 'MotorCity Kitty' last year and her team at one of their doubleheader's last year and again We joined them for one of their fundraisers Dinners a few months ago.

Our third meeting was to organized our Camera Crew going to their 'StarWars' double-header bout on May 4th at 4pm at The New Rink in Shelby Township, Michigan.

The Gadfly is using a professional Documentary/Social Media Crew to cover the Star Wars bout. We came to the practice Sunday to check out the lighting and speak to Kitty and her team about the bout.

We surveyed were to have the Camera placements and other technical talk of interviews, lighting and mounting small mobile cameras on certain people in the bout.


Practice makes perfect for the Eastside Derby Girls (4-27-14)

Our meeting started off in the smaller, back Rink were their practice was being held. We had a blast even just going over technical stuff. We met 2 of the 'IT Department', as they jokingly called themselves. They were working on the Social Media aspects for the team.

We had a nice chat with one of the Referees about his start in Roller Derby. He attended his first bout as a fan and soon was asked to be a Referee because of his interest!

We learned there are 7 Referees for the bouts with different jobs:


  • 2 Jammer Refs (one for each Jammer)
  • 2 Inside Refs (Front and Back of Track)
  • 3 Outside refs (Various Tasks)
The Gadfly is Executive Producer of a Mini-Documentary were are creating on THE EASTSIDE DERBY GIRLS! I are bringing a professional & experienced crew to tape their 'May the Fourth be With You'
