ROLLER DERBY in OZ- WOW!...Eastside Derby Girls duel in "YELLOW BRICK ROLLED"

Yet again Investigator Kim and Sam transcend onto the tuft of the coolest chicks this side of Roseville, Michigan. ROLLER DERBY. This is the season to see great athletes compete in a up-and-coming sport! This was a scrimmage between two teams made up of several teams including some Canadian ones!

CHECK OUT OUR VIDEO STORY OF THE BOUT! (:

The match was a scrimmage organized by the EASTSIDE DERBY GIRLS (EDG)with several other teams, including men who were mostly Referees. We talked to the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) who was a volunteer for the EDG. At least 2 times there were some Athletes who left the rink to recuperate from a game stopping minor injury. We talked to the EMT at the end of the bout and everyone is okay!

Good blocking of the Jammer....Was a good match! #gadflyin

The teams were the Lollipop Guild in Blue and the Lullaby League in Pink. They were both strong teams. One of the better bouts THE GADFLY has seen!

We talked to 2 "Fresh meat" players. This a term for new people who either passed the minimum qualifications and can play or is still being okayed to play. The girls have to pass a 2-prong test
  1. SKILLS
  2. BLOCKING/PHYSICAL
Our 2 "Fresh Meat" players were working behind the scenes helping the Club. What great teamwork!

Coach 'Cubby' and 'Muhammad Falli' (#15)- He was awesome during the bout!  #gadflyin

We talked to the "Owner" of the Club, 'Kitty'. She was so nice to talk to the Gadfly. She loves Detroit Derby and says DETROIT is the "Godfather of Derby"!

"Kitty" before the Bout. #gadflyin
We met the Annoncer and had a great conversation with him. he is going to be with the EDGs for the season. A life-long Detroiter, he loves it but as many people is disappointed with the bankruptcy.

Reporter Sam Gurwin with the EDG Announcer #gadflyin

"R2 Deck-U" and his Mom at halftime...Derby athletes are awesome!  #gadflyin

The Eastside Derby Girls support Charities during there season. The one they are currently helping "PLAYWORKS". They help through workshops and advocacy at schools to strengthen kids intellect and happiness through play.

CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WITH THE EDG'S CHARITY!

Retired Police Officer Kim D. spotted a dog we coined, 'Derby Dog'
in the bleachers! GO DERBY DOG! He or she was a big fan as you can see him/her watching!
"Derby Dog" watching the action! #gadflyin Crazy pooch! lol.

Everyone we talked to were excited the ROLLER DERBY MAY BE IN THE UPCOMING OLYMPICS! We found out that the problem is the lack of male leagues for it. We shall see..and cross our fingers!

Thanks for taking a look at our pictures & video! Stay tuned for more great pictures and stories!

  1. Hi! Thanks for coming out to watch our bout! Glad you enjoyed it and gave it a nice write up! You'll have to come back to our next bout January 18, 2014, when EDG will go up against Ann Arbor Derby Dimes.
Oh, and I can solve the mystery of Derby Dog:) That was Bailey, a cute dachshund, the dog of the rink owner.
    Thanks again!

  2. I had never been to Roller Derby before, so I was happy when Sam suggested it. Enjoyed it and will definitely go back again. You are all terrific. Thanks for the info on Derby Dog, it was so cute how he came running out and stopped and was watching.
