RESPECTED SECURITY ORGANIZATION HONORS DETROIT POLICE CHIEF CRAIG

Police Chief James Craig and Retired FBI & Penske Security Vice-President Richard Deslauriers spoke and were honored at the March meeting of the world's preeminent Security Organization, The American Society of Industrial Security. on March 13th, 2014.

Craig has always been a 'risk-taker'. He was a Patrolman in Detroit in 1977 and worked up the ranks at several other cities: 

1. Detroit 
2. Los Angeles 
3. Cincinnati 
4. Portland

He says Detroit is numb to crime. He wants to change this feeling and trend. And it seems to be working as:

• Homicide clearance rate went from 11% to 90%
• Homicides are down 14%
• End of 2013 Detroit had 334 Homicides (equal to New York)
• Crime reduction overall as of 3-13-14 is 23%

Chief Craig is dedicated to achieving success. He stressed several prongs to the gathered Professional Law Enforcement and Private Security Managers present:

• Forming Partnerships with the Citizens & Private Security, He was successful in California with working with the University of Southern California 
• 'Laser-like' way against Gang violence
• Forming relationships- He has okayed 'Moonlighting' for Officers; Talking to and understanding all citizens (In Portland he worked with the Somali Community); talking to CEO's of Corporations in the City.

No more 'Status Quo' for the City of Detroit. Some goals were not reached like reaching the best 911 response time, but it's getting better he says. Special Units like the "Major Investigations Squad" are doing great- recently catching the alleged perps in the "CVS" murder that happened recently in Detroit.
