Destination: FiLM NOIR & the Redford Theatre

The Friday and Saturday nights are just like they were in the 50s with the seem lying success of the restored REDFORD THEATRE! Magically teleport yourself to different places through a wide variety of movies from silent films to recent hits!

There are a few like us who Cosplay or dress up as characters from the movies! Here we are as Officer Deckard and the Robot Pris! It's fun to mingle and people love it.

THE VENUE
The restored Theater is beautifully decedent with yellows and reds and a slight chinese design feel to it. Like a famous film house in LA or something. The main theater is divided into an upper seating area and a lower one. The lobby is divided by a group of doors. Souvenirs and an open area is by the main doors where as food and bathrooms are within the inner lobby area. The only complaint is the popcorn comes in bags from Detroit Popcorn Company and it doesn't taste good. They should really pop it fresh or get a new vendor.

THE PEOPLE
The all volunteer staff is really nice! We always have fun talking to them. They always seem to have an interesting story. Both younger volunteers and older ones lively help patrons with directions, shirt sales or other needed relations. A great group of people!

THE MOVIES
We have seen alot of cool movies:
Blade Runner, To Kill A Mocking Bird, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Revenge of the Nerds and many more! Seeing classics like these on the big screen brings back memories and is just a whole lot of fun! Guest Stars came to a few of the Movies which made it even better. There is just some magic about the big screen that hales from its early days. My older friends mention cool movie houses that use to be a common sight in Detroit proper an the surrounding burgs.

An Adventure at Detroit Metro Airport

They say most people don't go beyond 100 miles of their place of origin but even so, within this area is a little island of uniqueness an airport seems to be such a place! I recently was taking a trip and decided to make my 4 hour wait an adventure... meet people and see some interesting things at Metro Detroit Airport. I mean, people are usually rushing through to make connections. There are a lot of good people and fun stuff to do here though!

Coming very early I tried to get an early flight ....my first adventure:

Ran into 2 Chinese students trying to figure out how to get to their plane within a half hour! i helped them use a passport machine and tried to explain how the airport worked. We were not even through security yet. They ended up having to go to the international counter and I wished them well! Hope they made it!

... my second adventure: Coming through the airport I heard the sound of a guitar. Drawn to this hip little Bar, I hunkered down for awhile. I befriended the Guitar Player and discussed music and such.

The Plane and all events leading up to it was fun... from stores to talking to people from other States to actual flight crews, one could never get bored here!...my third adventure: meeting great people and the flight staff of my plane! I also met the owners of a Ferndale Auto Body Repair shop and we chatted for awhile. They ended is okaying a future blog about their business!

So next time you are in an Airport, check out your surroundings as there is always something interesting going on behind the scenes of that airport your running through!

A Detroiter in Seattle: Midtown reflected in this Western Mecca

We know the central part of Detroit (Midtown, Corktown and Greektown) is thriving due to a new influx of business, investment and just plain hope coming true. The shear muscle of a few private individuals helped alot with investment in properties they owned plus political muscle to bring matching funds and help to Detroit.

SEATTLE is a sparkling city mirroring Midtown Detroit in alot of ways. Is one a reflection of another. is Plato's mirror true here? I say yes. Seattle is about 8 years ahead of the up-and-coming Detroit. Detroit will be a great Metropolis again soon.

BEAUTY:
Seriously Pretty! The look of a futuristic City when one is Downtown. Clean and with all of the appearances of minimal issues. The overpasses with trees on them- really? just wow. Just a clean feel. The Bubble of only Mid-town is shiny right now as the other little enclaves are not as fixed up or in perfect repair as it.

LIVING COSTS:
Let's just say the 2 friends I talked to- one a professional white collar woman and one a seriously hip  Band Member said it was ASTRONOMICAL! A one bedroom apartment is almost twice that of Suburban Detroit (KUOW analysis) but more equal to Midtown Detroit. A great cost of living calculator is here for SEATTLE rent for example seems alittle lower in DETROIT

HOMELESS:
I didn't notice any but apparently they are younger (20's) and reasonably clean-looking. It was pointed out by a few people I met. The Homeless are scace in Mid-Town from what I've seen unlike other parts of Detroit.

SUBURBS
I didn't get alot of information other then they are alot cheaper to live in than the City Proper. Housing seems super cheap in the Suburbs of Detroit compared to the Suburbs of SEATTLE.
35 miles away from Midtown I pay almost less than half of it.

GORE IN DETROIT: MotorCity Nightmares is a hit again!

Gadfly Investigations Newspaper (6-3-17) Sam Gurwin

Back, back at its haunt at the Novi, Michigan Sheraton on the weekend of April 28th, 2017 and the ghouls, ghostys and more haunt up the hotel and DETROIT! MotorCity Nightmares cranks another great weekend with  HORROR CULTURE- Movies, Fandom to unique Art! The mostly 20s and older crowd had their pick of Guests to see, products to buy and good conversation with the Vendors and other fans.
Great Cos-players!

THE GADFLY with LAURA PALMER!

THE VENUE aka GRAYYARD haha
Everyone knew where in the Hotel to go. As one approached the 2 rooms in the back of the Hotel the people in costumes or "COSPLAY" were more readily apparent! There is one large room with the Special Horror Guests, the larger vendors and such. The smaller rooms always seem to have the more interesting stuff like the evil Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter Movies haha!

THE GUESTS aka Ghouls!
All of the guests, especially the ones that dressed up were externally friendly and readily chatted and allowed pictures! It just adds to the overall experience and livens up the place! Almost every facet of the Horror world was covered from the Undead Movies to Anime-type Flicks. Just like Detroit, we are a melting pot of Horror too!

THE VENDORS aka Body Parts Suppliers haha!

From Movie Prop purchasers to home made horror items, there was plenty for all tastes in the Horror Genre. I spoke with several of them and they are passionate about their specific craft. Several Local Authors were also selling their books. I actually bought some. They are really Good! My favorite was David Brush's "Induction". He's a nice guy and the book ROCKS!

THE PICTURES aka Sightings!

Amy Steel! Friday the 13th Part II & April Fool's Day!
