The Toughest 5k- WARRIOR DASH 2017

Another addition to the drone of Summer- the high sun beaming on you, the look ahead to the coming fall and one of the toughest 5k's...like the world turning it reappears every year! It is almost always around the end of July (July 29th, 2017)

OVER THE FIRE PIT...GO!
These guys are ready for the race!
A Circus-like atmosphere permeates the circle of tents which include Vendors, Djs, Food & Drink, Check-in for the Event and more! They even have a Mobile Locker Service in the form a large truck with lockers in it back. For a small fee your stuff can be safe. GREAT IDEA. Although I have never had a problem, I like to feel safe. The Event's storage area consists of putting your stuff on a table with a tag. You have the your Race Bib number match it to get the item.

                        VIDEO: THE FULL WARRIOR DASH

The Runners go in "Waves" of about 200 people every half hour for most of the day. There are about 12 Obstacles that vary from a small lagoons to a fire pit that one jumps over.

A runner coming off the last obstacle!

I was surprised this year with so many Walkers but that's fine as everyone goes at their own pace. About half way through is the lagoon and after that..ALMOST EVERYONE WALKED! It was so exhausting for sure!

VIDEO: LAGOON OBSTACLE!

           What a jump!
From ditches to trenches to water pouring down on you as you try to walk on placks, this event is not for the faint of heart! The best part is jumping over the fire pit near the end! Pretty cool! WELL, there is plenty of food and adult beverages for the VICTORIOUS! Also some games and entertainment with a LIVE DJ!

                  SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

Local Actor Returns Home: Bruce Campbell at the Redford Theatre

The effervescent neon glow & old-time romance of the REDFORD THEATRE shades the cool happenings here over the years. One such instance is a young BRUCE CAMPBELL who showed his Film, "EVIL DEAD" premiered in 1981. He is back!

Awesome Cosplayer Steph (Sheila) & BRUCE CAMPBELL in the background!

THE VIP MEET & GREET/BOOK TOUR
Bruce's book looks cool and I will read it soon. He is a solid Actor and I have loved him since I was a kid. This Event was a dream come true! The Theatre organized a whole day affair which was maybe a mistake. It was alittle long and the time between autographs with Bruce and the actual movie (EVIL DEAD) was a trek. It was okay though because there were new friends to talk to and the Theatre is always a cool place. Dinner was a necessity outside of the Event. Bruce has a 45 minute Trivia Game that he did here and around town this week. Here is another fan's video under the 1981 Picture of Bruce!

MEETING ASH (BRUCE CAMPBELL)
It was sad that the time with Bruce was so short. I love this Theatre and I don't know if it was them or Bruce's people who made the time so short. It wasn't as crowded as I thought so there was no reason to have such speed on it. It was great to meet the Actor of such great movies but I wish it was longer and I could have asked more questions and such. Pictures with him were not allowed. Bummer!

ZOMBIE'S IN DETROIT- GEORGE ROMERO TRIBUTE AT REDFORD THEATRE

The dusk over the old Theater...and then the Zombies were shambling near...no, it's not a Horror Movie but a TRIBUTE EVENT TO GEORGE ROMERO!

Steph has turned! Watch out Redford Theatre! The Guard outside couldn't escape!

The Girls of CREEPYNCUTE SHOP
Yes, the late great Horror Movie Legend passed away last month and the restore REDFORD THEATER played "Night of the Living Dead" along with a great short TRIBUTE CLIP to him.

                     VIDEO: THE GEORGE ROMERO Tribute!

THE THEATER

The Redford Theater is the perfect place to hold a classic film like Night of the Living Dead. I think they used the original print as it was very imperfect on the screen but brought the abeyance of the 60's to the place!

VIDEO: The Story Behind the Famous BARBARA CHASE SCENE!

It would have been really cool to go on 2nd level balcony for this...the seats aren't as conformable though. But it's such a cool theatre it probably would have felt like the time the movie came out!

ZOMBIES ARE COMING TO THE REDFORD THEATRE!
THE PEOPLE

Probably the most crowded I've see it. Not as many COSPLAYERS as I thought there would be but still some fanatics like us! The crowd is always into whatever movie is playing and We never had any issues with rowdy or weird people. Everyone is always cool. Sometimes even some non-costumed peeps want to take pics with us!

The hazards of MAKE-UP! Don't worry we got it all up!
THE MOVIE!

What can I say? Dusty and technically sorta grainy in parts ... the movie was MAGNIFICENT! Felt like it was the day it came out! It has the white scratches and the blurring of white- really added to the ambiance of the night! Great date movie to get close to your significant other!

VIDEO: BARBARA attacked by the ZOMBIE SCENE!

It's always great to hang out with fellow Fans who love Zombies and Mr. Romero! There are a few more events going on soon so we will keep you up to date! THANKS FOR READING MY BLOG!

Detroit Entertainment Company Excels at FOOD & DRINK FESTIVALS!

For the last 10 or so years, ULTIMATE FUN PRODUCTIONS lead by Matt & John have this FESTIVAL THING down to a science. I came before the crowds to the DETROIT BEER AND WINE FESTIVAL 2017 and hung out for alittle while.

Funny Shirt @ Detroit Beer & Wine Festival
Talking to the Owners I found out they put on this  (And other) Festivals to "Educate" people on Fine Wines & Beer before they purchase them. They put on Festivals all over Oakland County.

Line for General Admission

The energy and excitement they said was great for the Festivals they mentioned. It is always such a cool Summer activity we say. The hum of the after-work traffic dulled by the laughs with friends in the closed Park of Grand Circus.

THE EVENT

There were 40 tables of Beer, Wine & Mead. If you got hungry there were Gyros in the rear of the Park. The VIP entrance was 6:30 and it was a nice crowd. It did get crowded by 8:30 or so. We would recommend if you don't like crowds get the VIP and stay until 8pm.

THE PEOPLE

The Crowd, Vendors and other Staff were super-friendly! Always helpful and all seemed in a good mood!No issues arose as Security, Visitors and Vendors worked well together. No incidents other then a long line for the bathrooms and running out of certain alcohols. No real issue as there is a limited supply...plenty of others to choose from!

Movies SO BAD THERE'RE GOOD- Locally-Made "The Carrier" was AMAZING!

I wanted to see a SCI-FI/HORROR Movie some friends told me about ... One of them told me about a Movie made in her Hometown of MANCHESTER, Michigan- little did I know it is worthy of poking fun just like MYSTERY SCIENCE 3000 & RiffTrax style! THE CARRIER IS A GREAT BAD MOVIE!
NOTE: THIS IS AN R RATED MOVIE-
                             PLEASE BE ADVISED

Kathleen of the Manchester District Library  with some PROPS she made for the Movie screening-
PLASTIC PONCHOS & TOY CATS
THE MOVIE

Set in a Rural Village, Our Fallen Hero Jake is the only survivor of a House fire that killed his Parents and is now jaded and a ridiculed outcast. A horrible disease besets Jake were he can transfer some type of acidic chemistry to inanimate (or flesh)...thus people began to melt in the small town or "They are eaten" by the objects.

(VIDEO) ONE OF THE FIRST VICTIMS-
                           A BOOK BEGINS TO EAT/DEVOLVE A GUY!

JAKE from "THE CARRIER"
Soon a big storm knocks out the only bridge out and the town is left with little leadership and alot of fear. The townspeople soon garb up in plastic to protect themselves and also form 2 Camps (who soon become enemies) People die in the usual FRIDAY THE 13TH way...melting on a toilet, through a touched mirror (the woman is nude) and even a sexual violence scene (The man got his just deserts for sure!) Perhaps an 18+ Movie for scenes like this in the Movie. Just to let you guys know!

THE SCREENING

A light turn-out but a whole lot of FUN! It was fun talking to some of the people there who enjoy the same kinda stuff!

"THE CARRIER" ready to play at the MANCHESTER DISTRICT LIBRARY

(VIDEO) THE 2 OPPOSING CAMPS FIGHT OVER CATS!

I didn't realize the Movie was lacking essential Acting and Script. It was worthy of a RIFFTRAX and/or a Mystery Science 3000 (2 entities that hackle bad movies while playing it. They are both very successful).

LOCALLY MADE IN MANCHESTER, MICHIGAN!

Downtown Manchester in "THE CARRIER" circa 1988

(VIDEO)  THE END FIGHT SCENE OF THE MOVIE!

PROPS SIMILAR TO THE ONES IN THE MOVIE! Great :)

FUNNIEST PARTS

Eventually the survivors use wild cats to test for the virus. The 2 opposing Camps go to War at the end of the movie- one of the Major issues is the availability of CATS (to test for the disease) and the alleged thefts and "Hording" of Cats!

BEST LINES FROM THE MOVIE

1.   "Get the Cats"
2.   "Don't touch me I don't want to die. Wear your gloves"
3.   "It's screwing that kills ya!"
4.   "If it wasn't for the Jones we would have the Cats!"
5.   "Tell your lungs to breath"
6.   "Guard the Cats"
7.   "Get the Children and Cats inside!"
8.   "The patterns were too stupid to be intentional"
9.   "Touch the wall, Jake!"
10. "Is it Cats or is it Death?"
11. "There's that Herd of Cats!"

FUTURE POSSIBILITIES

We befriended Kathleen, Director of the Manchester District Library. She enjoyed our laughter and analysis/enthusiasm during the movie and soon befriended us.

Kathleen & Us after watching "THE CARRIER"!

We discussed a Halloween screening with Cosplay, food, festivities, laughs and possible fund-raising for the Library. Perhaps more in the future to help the Senior Citizens & Children of the Local Area! THANKS FOR READING MY BLOG!

Small Town, BIG FAIR! MANCHESTER MICHIGAN!

Sam Gurwin, Gadfly Investigations Newspaper (7-27-17)

In a quaint Village North of Ann Arbor, Michigan lies a gem of a City...MANCHESTER, MICHIGAN! This charming Village throws a fun Fair every Summer-
           MANCHESTER COMMUNITY FAIR.

Sorry to say I missed the Bull Riding and Sheep Scrabble, but did get to see the DEMOLITION DERBY and take in the Rides & Food! I need to check out more of the rural fairs as they seem alot safer and have more interesting activities!

THE RIDES...

Standard ones and super-sweet. I have grown too weak in constitution to hit any "spinning" one but there is always the Ferris Wheel!

THE DEMOLITION DERBY...

Took alittle longer than I think to start then it needed to but the Fire Department watered down the track and I guess they had to prep for it. I only had time to stay for the first Derby (The second one had a car flip over I understand!). One car got a damaged wheel during my stay and had to stop. There were no major hits that I saw but it was still cool! It seemed pretty tame- not what I was expecting.

                               VIDEO: DEMOLITION DERBY COLLAGE!

Fairies & Fun invade Manchester Michigan!

A great tradition of the Manchester Fairy Festival lives on in Manchester!  The Lead Fairy BUBBLINA telling stories to the children, a surprise pirate attack where the kids rescue BUBBLINA by blowing bubbles on the Pirate (changing him into a good natured fellow) and snatching the key to her cell in one of the Play Structures! At the end BUBBLINA escapes and the Pirate and the Lead Fairy become friends!

BUBBILINA THE FAIRY!

Story Time from BUBBLINA!
The Park next to the Farmers Market was a perfect place for this yearly event. A huge stuffed Unicorn was won at the end by a very happy little girl through a random drawing! The small crowd of kids had face-painting, fun on the play-structures, a few games like bean bag tossing and so much more.

The Pirate "Left Scar from the City Afar"!

The Grand Prize of a Unicorn Stuff Animal! One lucky kid won this!

A lot of the children wore fairy outfits and wings were abundant! Face painting and small gifts- both made for free like little fairies to the cool products from Jennifer of the GARDEN MILL store!

Amber from GARDEN MILL Store!

THE PARADE!

The Fairy March around the Farmer's Market
The climax was a great parade lead by BUBBLINA who sang songs and lead the young fairies and the Pirate on a march around the Park. Bubbles were blown and music could be heard all around. The kids loved this and the proud Parents gathered in a sheltered Picnic area and watched.

THE FARMER'S MARKET!

Contestants for the Ms. Manchester...Later in the year they will find out the winner

The City of Manchester is involved in this event and their Rep was great to talk to about the Village and the other vendors at the Market.
