Shinola Watches

The fifth and final of the Detroit area brands that made The 25 Brands to Watch in 2013 is Shinola watches.  Manufacturing/assembling watches is a bit different from manufacturing/assembling autos, but it is great to see watches not only being Made in the USA, but Made in Detroit.  Located in Detroit at the College for Creative Studies complex in the former GM Argonaut building.  This is precision work, just look at the pictures on their web site.  There are also pictures of the 13 craftspeople who work at the company.  I like that, it shows that a company isn't just the products they sell, but also the people who work there.  Under the heading, 'Why Open a Watch Factory in Detroit' is this:  "We know there's not just history in Detroit, there is a future.".  Great quote.  Looks like they will be making other products in Detroit besides the watches including bicycles.  I also like that the company has a sense of humor - watch the video to see how they chose their name and see if you know the colloquialism they are referring to.  I'm looking forward to seeing all their products.
