Was reading the Royal Oak Patch today and saw that the new pizzeria in Royal Oak- Blaze Pizza, was offering FREE pizza from 5 PM til 11 PM. Needless to say I headed on over to get me someFREE pizza. Of course there was a line, but all things considered it moved quickly. All in all I was in and out in a little less than an hour. They advertise that the pizza is cooked in 120 seconds and I believe it. They have a big oven and you can watch them bake it. Blaze offers signature pizzas or you can build your own. The set up reminds me of Subway, you select your sauce, cheese, meat and veggies. I decided to build my own and went with the red sauce, mozzarella, NO meat and LOTS of veggies. See my creation below. Of course it is NOT NY style pizza, but I did enjoy it and would have it again. However; next time I would opt for more cheese. Thank you Blaze Pizza for theFREEpizza, I enjoyed it.
OK, so as reported I'm on a quest to find New York style pizza in Michigan and according to TripAdvisor maybe I should be searching for San Diego style pizza. Seriously, TripAdvisor just came out with their list of the 'Top 10 Cities for Pizza' and NYC came in fourth. Fourth?????? Fugettaboutit - fourth. Even mediocre pizza in NYC is good. Whatever, this is based on reviews and opinions of TripAdvisor travelers and you know what they say about opinions?
According to TripAdvisor here are the top 10 cities: 1) San Diego, 2) Las Vegas, 3) Boston, 4) NYC, 5) Seattle, 6) Austin, 7) San Francisco, 8) Indianapolis 9) Philadelphia 10) Phoenix.
My guess is that a vast majority of these pizzerias are serving NY style pizza, but again I don't see how these cities can match the volume of good pizzerias that NYC has. That said here is a video "Bruno's NY Style Pizza Dough", and the next post from me on The Gadfly Investigations Newspaper will be my continuing search for that NY style pizza in Michigan.
I love living in Michigan, not sorry I moved here from New York. When people ask me about the move I always tell them, Michigan is cheaper, less crowded, the people are nice, but the pizza stinks. So, I have decided to set out on a pizza quest to find New York style pizza somewhere in Michigan.
First stop was Shields Pizza. For those of you who have been following The Gadfly Investigations Newspaper you may remember my post 'Wow, Wow Water' http://gadflyinvestigates.blogspot.com/2013/07/wow-wow-water.html The brand Wow Water was created by Shields Pizza co-owner Peter Andoni, so we ordered 2 Wow Waters. I had the Tropical Citrus and Sam had the Strawberry Kiwi. I can tell you that we both liked the Wow Water and would definitely buy it again - refreshing, and it tastes good. We ordered a small pizza with pepperoni and I can honestly say I liked it. However; it is NOTNY style pizza, it is deep dish and I still prefer NY style pizza. I really LOVE the thin crust with the gooey, greasy cheese of the NY style pizza that you can only eat by folding it in half. My favorite NY pizza place is Lombardis in NYC. What can I say - the quest continues.
Here is a video about Lombardis - enjoy. WTH? Who are these people eating pizza with a fork and knife?
