DETROIT'S MOCKINGJAY STORMS THE EMAGINE THEATER IN ROYAL OAK!

We set our sights on the rendezvous at the Emagine Theater in Royal Oak, Michigan to see the New Hunger Games Movie: Mockingjay Part I.
Nicole, our friendly Bartender was really great! Thanks :)
Bubble Tea Girl, David K. & Detroit Trouble Girl at the Emagine Theater

This Emagine Theater has:

  • Full Restaurant with Alcohol
  • Bowling Alley
  • Movies, of course!
  • Party Rooms/Meeting Rooms to rent
The movie will be starting soon- Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I!
The Gadfly Staff getting their tickets taken for the Hunger Games Movie!

So it was the first time I have been to the Theater. I talked to the Manger and we discovered the great things to do within the facility. From rooms to rent for parties to the great things happening with the restaurant, it's alot under one roof.

Nicole was up for the idea of taking a picture with PEETA & KATNESS, lol
Our new friend, Nicole and the other Bartender at the restaurant were very nice. They helped select some beverages similar to some they didn't have for me. She also knew alot about the Emagine chain. It was great talking to her. She works in the full service restaurant at the theater.

Our victory salute on our tour of the EMAGINE THEATER- ROYAL OAK!

And the seats in the Theater...wow! They have 2 levels- vip and regular. The vip seats look really comfortable and larger but the regular ones we were in were very comfortable (no complaints! lol). Still pretty large with 2 cup holders and enough room in-between seats so not to crush people together. It was a great experience and I would recommend the Emagine theaters to everyone.

Thanks for reading our BLOG!!! :)

HIP TO SING: OUR KARAOKE ADVENTURE

Like a roving band of troubadours, the Gadfly blog staff left Catina Diablo's  to find another Karaoke venue. Catina Diablo's is great but it was the first night they cancelled the Karaoke! But like lucky gold hunters of the Gold Rush in the old days...we found more riches in the form of The Inn Place of Royal Oak!

BUBBLE & TROUBLE HAVING FUN WITH OTHER GUESTS!

The Inn Place Bar & Grill was like finding a hidden gem. The Gadfly Staff loved it!

Located in Royal Oak, well-known for its ever growing up-scale nightclubs, we ended up at The Inn Place as it had Karaoke... and we stayed as it was just plain fun!

The staff was great. We were never without service. They seem to have an extra level of care. Is it because they seem to be more of a neighborhood-type bar? The crowd was hipster-ish and cool; The staff worked hard to cover the whole Bar. AJ was great on security and was always looking around with a friendly smile.

GREAT STAFF MEMBERS- BRUCE & ELAYNA WERE GREAT!

Like any Karaoke Bar there is always a regular who every one adores. A guy with a pretty good voice always got the crowd up when he appeared with the microphone.

THIS GUY WAS GREAT. EVERYONE SEEMED TO KNOW HIM!

We met alot of cool people and had a ton of fun. It is really a relaxed place. It isn't really big but it is laid out pretty good with a pool table in the back.

PI DAVID K CAN SURE SING! CHECK OUT OUR VIDEO!

We highly recommend the Inn Place. If you just want a relaxed evening with friends, this is the place to be! Not glittery like the big clubs in Royal Oak, but it will do for alot of fun!

CALIFORNIA ROLLER DERBY GIRL LOVES THE DETROIT DERBY GIRLS!

I caught up with a great lady from Orange County, California- and yes, she is a DERBY GIRL!
'SkyscrapeHER'- Just moved to DETROIT..hope she joins the DDGs :)

The 10th season opening bouts for the DETROIT DERBY GIRLS (1995-2015) was a great event. I also had the pleasure of meeting 'skyscrapHER', a former member of the Lagunatics, a South Coast Roller Derby league team.

Underdogs Devil's Night Dames beats the Grand Prix Madonnas 186-152

She just moved here. We only found out because there was a 'Shout-Out' to her from the bout announcer. It actually took alittle while to find her because no one knew where she was. Finally I found her! And she was super nice. I think she had 2 friends with her and they were all just enjoying the bout!

I hope to see her with one of the teams. Good luck 'SkyscrapeHER' and welcome to DETROIT!

The FOSTER BROOKS BAND is home-grown DETROIT ROCK MUSIC

The lights and sound were coming from the wooden-stock building and were bouncing off of Cass lake....it was THE FOSTER BROOKS BAND playing at the well-know establishment Bachelor One Sports Bar in Keego Harbor, Michigan. The sound and lights from the windows danced off the road and fun could be heard from inside.

THE FOSTER BROOKS BAND POSE FOR THE GADFLY

THE VENUE: BACHELOR I, a non-nondescript building, made of a light-colored brown wood, has been around the Lakes Region here for years. From inside, a great acoustic space for bands exist. Basically a big rectangle, the stage is at one end, then a dance floor, followed by tables and small mounted tables to the game area in back with a pool table and video games. Clean and inviting, the staff went around serving the great crowd.

FUN ON THE DANCE FLOOR- FOSTER BROOKS CONCERT 10-25-14

THE STAFF: The friendly staff, and I'm not just saying that as I have been to most major venues and bars in the area, was cool. From "Momma", the seemly leader and mother-like figure, to the cool waitresses...all decked out in FOSTER BROOK T-SHIRTS, the 'hot pink' letters of the writing on the shirts seemly all over the bar as guests were serve was remarkable. They are friendly and a 'well oiled machine' compared to other staffs I have seen at other venues in the area.

GREAT & FRIENDLY STAFF@ BACHELOR I SPORTS BAR

THE PATRONS: A nice crowd, a nice mix of ages. The crowd got younger as the night progressed. I gauge crowds on how polite they are when it gets packed with people later in the evening- this crowd was great! The dancing got crazy by 10pm with the band playing and everyone having a good time. The dance floor isn't the biggest in the area but it was all used.

THE COOL CROWD @ BACHELOR I SPORTS BAR

THE BAND: This Bloomfield Hills-based rock cover band consisted of Lead Singer Sam Gray, Guitarist Andy Markowitz, Bassist Mark Anderson, Scott Gittleman and Doug Kahan. These guys, all professionals by day, came together, as Sam Gray says, to do a thing they loved thing to do- play music. Sam says most guys their age have golf and those type of hobbies- THE FOSTER BROOKS BAND IS THEIR LOVED & FUN THING TO DO. From 60's songs to todays' hits- their range is great. To go from a song like "Jessie's Girl" to "Fire", one needs talant and a range! The crowd loves them!

OUR VIDEO OF THE FOSTER BROOKS BAND!

OUR STAFF including DETROIT'S BUBBLE TEA GIRL, helped the band hand out give-aways, T-shirts and just plain fun! We look forward to seeing this band in the future!

FOOD & COOL PEOPLE- Southfield's 2nd Annual Food Truck Rally shows the way of the future

                             AS I ENTER...

Metallic reflections of me...the food truck gleamed in the late afternoon sun as I headed into the compound of the Arbor Lofts of Southfield, a upscale development near the municipal offices of the  City of Southfield.

The atmosphere was ripe for a realxing mid-week festival. I spyed the Band and went to talk to them. The were familar...yes, THE GEORGE BROTHERS BAND, I have seen them advertised in past events for Southfield. I talked to the brothers right before they went on. They spoke of loving these events. They have done many including the Royal Oak "Arts, Beats and Eats".
The George Brothers play "Hungry Like The Wolf" :)

I thanked the Band and move on to the FOOD TRUCKS! Now there is a development in the obtaining of a FOOD TRUCK as I talked to several of the Owners. I got the gist of it:

  1. Start with PUSH CARTS...get popular and they add to the business
  2. Serve from a truck like a classic pick-up...'Franks Etc' does this now
  3. Buy a Food Truck that can cost anywhere around 80,000-100,000 dollars.
A couple enjoying the Rally

THE FOOD & MUSIC INVESTIGATION! lol

Questions I asked and Spotlights on the interesting People!
WHY A FOOD TRUCK AS A CAREER?

All of the Truckers I talked to loved the food industry and 2 of them started from food carts.

FRANKS ETC  FOOD TRUCK 'SPOTLIGHT'

I talked to Bill of 'Franks Etc.'. By far, he was my favorite Vendor as he was nice, had a great back-story and his food was my favorite! He has:
  1. Been in business for 12 years
  2. He started from a PUSHCART!
  3. Found a VW Truck and restored it for the business! (Here's a former VW Employee too)
  4. Truck needs NO ELECTRICITY AS IT COOKS WITH PROPANE!
  5. His business eneded up being "A HOME-RUN BUNT" in his words! I love that.
The Franks Etc Food Truck!

HOW IS BUSINESS?

They all said business was good (I did't talk to Jacques' Tacos- they were packed! So I would bet business is good for them! lol)

They all have schedules into the near future...businesses, events and other events.

Ferndale' well-known eatery,TREAT DREAMS has a food truck! Wow.  I talked to Scott about the social media genius of a few years back when they sold all their melting ice cream during the big blackout by getting people to come down to their brick & mortar store!

Scott of TREAT DREAMS talks about his restaurant & social media

The new kids on the block is the ESKIMO JACK Food Truck. Specializing in Cookies and delicious Ice Cream! They have alot of different cookies and Ice cream flavors to choose from.
Eskimo Jacks Owners pose for our blog! They are a new success story!

I notice uniformed  Police Officers...they are from Southfield's Emergency Management Division. They are special responders and assist Police and other Emergency Services at special events (Like this one!). They are a volunteer group. Very nice guys.

I also met a well-known local cable celebratory, Chris Campbell of both the City of Southfield 'City Cable 15' and WDET 101.9 fm! We had a great talk on Southfield and its future. Southfield has some great plans for growing a great  diverse business and residential community.

I'm looking forward to more fun next year! Thanks for looking at my blog :)
