Historic Baldwin Theatre Royal Oak Michigan

Baldwin Theatre Royal Oak Michigan
I have been attending Stagecrafter shows at the Baldwin Theatre since I moved here from NY.  While it may not be "Broadway", I have rarely been disappointed.  The productions and talent is first rate.  Sunday the theatre had an open house to celebrate their being designated a local historic site.

Fun afternoon with refreshments, show tunes on the Wurlitzer organ and a tour of the theatre.  Here are some facts I learned about the Baldwin Theatre:
Wurlitzer Organ Baldwin Theatre

  1. Built in 1922 for $125,000
  2. Featured silent films and vaudeville acts
  3. Older than the Fox and Fisher Theatres
  4. In 1984 the theatre was closed and demolition was considered
  5. Stagecrafters purchased it in 1984 for $70,000
  6. Members did most of the renovations and the theatre reopened 09/20/1985 with The Music Man
  7. Baldwin Theatre Alumni - Sutton Foster, Jeffrey Seller and Kristen Bell
If you ever get the chance - catch a show at the historical Baldwin Theatre.

Arts, Beats and Eats Country Style

Headed over to Arts, Beats and Eats in Royal Oak Saturday night to see Montgomery Gentry.  Caught some of Longneck Strangler, a Hazel Park, MI country band and they were gooooood.  I'd really like to see them again.  I put on my Supersonic Safety Research hat and did some sleuthing and.....they have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/longneck.strangler , they are on Twitter https://twitter.com/LongneckStr and have a YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/LongneckStrangler .  Guess it will be easy for me to follow them.  Longneck Strangler waa a great find at Arts, Beats and Eats.  Here is a video clip I took of them at Arts, Beats and Eats.  Enjoy.

When Longneck Strangler was finished playing we headed over to see Montgomery Gentry perform.  I have always liked their music, but had never seen them live.  I was NOT disappointed.  They played for an hour and a half and put on  a great show.  You may ask WTH is this video I've posted.  I took the video just to show a freight train passing as the show is going on and in the background you can see are the senior apartments.  I could see that quite a few of the seniors were watching the show from their windows.  Lucky them to have great seats for the show.  More on Arts, Beats and Eats to come - stay tuned.
